Gilbert Baker, the designer of the original Pride flag commissioned by Harvey Milk, included each color to represent an aspect of the LGBT community:
The red stripe symbolizes life, orange stands for healing, yellow for sunlight, green for nature, blue represents serenity, and violet symbolizes the spirit of our people.
